The 10th Cultural Week in Gilching
celebrates its anniversary in a very special setting.
From 11 to 27 October 2024, the town hall foyer transforms into a stage where innovative artworks and interactive experiences come together. This year, innovative lenticular portraits and an interactive photo booth for children take centre stage – concepts that strikingly showcase the creative energy of local artists.
A Project with History and Fresh Momentum
Since 2017 I have accompanied the Cultural Week in Gilching and have been able to realise many exciting projects. For the 10th anniversary, I was entrusted with something special:
- Cover design: Over 50 local artists were portrayed by me and digitally drawn in an innovative lenticular format.
- Dynamic lenticular portraits: Thanks to modern technology, the images gain a fascinating depth and dynamism, giving new visibility to artists who often work behind the scenes.
“It was important to me to show the people behind the scenes and capture their creative energy,” emphasises Michael Campos Viola.
In parallel with the cover design, renowned artists such as Ruth Neureiter (painter and poet) and Jakobus Ciolek (cultural officer) curate the exhibition, which offers an exciting retrospective of past Cultural Weeks as well as new impulses.
Experience Lenticular Art Live
Lenticular images are more than just printed motifs – they are living artworks that unfold a surprising depth through movement and perspective.
At the Cultural Week Gilching 2024, this project shows how innovatively lenticular technology can be used: as a live attraction, interactive activity and modern art contribution.
What is Lenticular?
Lenticular printing (also called wiggle image, flip image or 3D image) is a special printing process
in which two or more motifs are printed on a lenticular film. Depending on the viewing angle, the image changes or a 3D effect is created.
Live Lenticular Production at Events
For the first time at the Cultural Week, we realised a mobile lenticular studio.
Visitors could be photographed on site and receive an individual lenticular portrait within minutes – ready to take home.
This technique can also be used at corporate events, festivals or trade fairs.
Technology & Implementation
The lenticular live setup is based on professional photography (Nikon Z9, Profoto flash technology),
a digital illustration process and precise lenticular printing technology. This creates impressive 3D effects that are guaranteed to inspire.
Lenticular: For What Occasions?
Lenticular is suitable for:
- Corporate events & promotions
- Town festivals & cultural weeks
- Festivals & pop-up stores
- Children's & youth programmes
- Art installations & exhibitions

Interactive Photo Booth for Children
Another special programme item is the interactive photo booth, which will take place on 20 October 2024 in cooperation with the Gilching Youth Centre as part of the Children and Youth Day. Here, children can have their photo taken and create their own lenticular image – a unique experience they can take home free of charge.
Making-of: From Idea to Technical Implementation
The realisation of this ambitious project required a perfect symbiosis of creativity and technology:
- Portrait photography: With state-of-the-art equipment (Nikon Z9, Profoto B10X and Strip 1x4), the faces of the artists were captured in detail.
- Digitalisation & illustration process: The portraits taken were digitally transformed into expressive drawings, which served as the basis for the lenticular portraits.
- Lenticular printing process: Using a photo pigment printer and precise prepress work, an effect was created that gives the images movement and depth – realised in four variants.
These insights into the creation process show how much passion and craftsmanship goes into each image.
Outlook
The 10th Cultural Week in Gilching is more than just an exhibition – it is a living expression of cultural diversity and creative commitment. With innovative lenticular portraits and interactive experiences, this anniversary becomes an unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages. I look forward to sharing this special moment with the region and am excited about future projects.
